Update on incident in Makora Road, Massey

Just before 9am this morning Police received a call saying that a man had assaulted a woman in Makora Road, Massey.

 

At the same time witnesses have told Police that a large explosion was heard coming from a house in Makora Road and the house was on fire.

 

Upon arrival Police officers found a woman at a nearby property who had serious head injuries. An ambulance took the woman, who is aged in her forties, to Auckland Hospital.

 

The Fire Service advised Police that a body had been found in the garage area of the burnt house.

 

At this stage Police believe the incident is domestic-related and that the body is that of the injured woman's partner. 

 

The investigation into the death is being conducted on behalf of the coroner.

 

At this point in time Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.

 

The injured woman is in a stable condition and is due to undergo surgery for head and facial injuries in Auckland Hospital.

 

The scene examination is ongoing however Police can confirm that a reasonable quantity of paint and other flammable liquids have been found in the garage and the explosion is not thought to be the result of any drug producing activity.
