Wellington Police are continuing their investigation into the firearms incident which occurred at Makara Beach this morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Van Den Heuvel says 'Police were advised that a man with gunshot wounds had gone to an address in Makara Beach early this morning, asking for assistance. He has been taken to Wellington Hospital by the Westpac Rescue helicopter where he remains in a serious but stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.'
'We have not yet been able to speak with the victim in this incident' said Mr Van Den Heuvel.
Police are keen to hear from members of the public who may have seen a blue 1990 Mitsubishi Mirage car which was seen leaving the Makara beach area shortly after the incident heading towards Karori.
'Police staff stopped this vehicle at a cordon this morning as it tried to enter Karori from Makara Road. We can confirm the two occupants of this vehicle have been taken into custody in relation to the Makara incident' said Mr Van Den Heuvel.
The firearm used in the shooting is believed to be a shotgun and is still outstanding at this stage. Police would like to hear from anyone who has information in relation to this or the shooting to please contact the Wellington Central Police station on 04 381 2000.

Makara Beach remains cordoned off at this time and it is hoped to have the beach fully open by mid afternoon.
