1 min read

Hamilton Police investigating the murder of man in a Chartwell home yesterday afternoon are interviewing a person of interest in relation to the incident.

District Crime Manager, Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall, of the Waikato CIB said a 19-year-old man handed himself into Counties Manukau Police about 7am.

"Teams of investigators worked through the night and searched a number of properties in Auckland in connection with our attempts to locate this man and steps are underway to interview him today.

"As this is going on a scene examination at the address where 38-year-old Hamilton man, Sedrick Tilley TIATIA, died will recommence this morning."

Mr KEALL said Police hoped to progress this scene examination and an area canvas to the point where Mr TIATIA'S body can be removed to allow for a post-mortem to be conducted in Auckland.

"At this point Police would still like to hear from anyone in the vicinity of Winstone Ave in Chartwell between 1-2pm yesterday who may have seen anything suspicious.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200. Police have already spoken to a number of members of the public in the course of their investigations and we would like to thank the public for their assistance to date."
