Waikato Police investigating a fatal collision between a bus and a car at a busy Hamilton intersection late this afternoon are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Acting Detective Sergeant Tom Evans of the Hamilton CIB said the crash, which happened at a four way intersection between Ulster and Victoria Streets and Forest Lake and Te Rapa Roads occurred shortly before 5pm.

"The intersection was controlled by traffic lights and there were a number of vehicles in the lines of traffic as well as pedestrians and shoppers at the two nearby blocks of shops.

"The crash is currently the subject of a number of separate investigations and it is important investigators hear from anyone who saw what has occurred and we ask these people to come forward."

All calls will be treated in confidence.

Mr Evans said a 46-year-old woman driving in a car involved in the crash was killed in the incident while a man was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance with what is thought to be arm injuries.
