1 min read

Kaikohe Police have arrested three people in relation to the armed robbery of a security van in September this year.

Kaikohe Police executed a number of search warrants early yesterday morning as part of their investigation into the Rebels Gang. The gang was believed to be responsible for the armed robbery of a security van outside the New World Supermarket in Kaikohe on September 23.

Three firearms and a Harley Davidson motor cycle were seized from a Kaikohe address, while further ammunition and part of a methamphetamine laboratory were seized from a rural property.

The three men, aged 26, 36 and 37 will face a variety of charges when they appear in Kaikohe District Court today, including armed robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, arson and unlawful possession of firearms.

Officer in charge of the operation Detective Sergeant Chris Fouhy said the armed robbery was a stark reminder that criminal gangs such as the Rebels were involved in more than just drugs and stolen property.

"They are prepared to put lives at risk.  The Police will use all the tools we have available to us to target these criminals and dismantle their activities.  It is particularly pleasing to get this arsenal of firearms out of their hands."

Mr Fouhy said along with the community of Kaikohe, Police would not tolerate the activities of gangs or other criminals in the town.

"The public can be rest assured that we will leave no stone unturned when serious crimes such as this aggravated robbery occur in our community."
