Manawatu Police are working to locate a 17-year-old man after he crashed a stolen Subaru sedan on Ferguson Street, Palmerston North, around 1pm today.
Officer in charge of the investigation Detective Shelley Ross says that a team of officers are making inquiries to determine his whereabouts.
"We have some strong leads on the man's identity but at this stage it is too early to confirm who he is. Over the next 48 hours we will be speaking to a large number of witnesses to piece together the sequence of events."
"Police are very keen to speak to anyone that witnessed the Subaru crashing into a vehicle exiting the Pak'nSave supermarket car park this afternoon. The Subaru then went onto crash into a pole at the Ferguson Street entrance to the Plaza. We encourage those who saw this incident to contact Police as soon as possible," says Detective Ross.
The sole occupant of the vehicle that the Subaru crashed into did not sustain any injuries from the crash.
The passenger of the Subaru, a 27-year-old man, is in Police custody and will likely appear in the Palmerston North District Court tomorrow once charges are laid.
