Waitakere Police appeal for victim to make contact with them

2 min read

Detectives investigating a series of indecent assaults at a West Auckland supermarket are encouraging a woman believed to be one of the victims to make contact with Police.

At around 4pm last Wednesday (16 October) three women were assaulted in and around the Countdown Supermarket at Lynnmall.

Two of the victim's raised the alarm with security guards, and as they watched the offender he sat down on a bench outside the supermarket.

A woman unknowingly sat down next to the offender who quickly began talking to her and then without warning reached around and touched her indecently.

The incident was captured on CCTV footage and was also witnessed by the first two victims.

The third woman who was seen to be assaulted by the man, had left by the scene by the time Police arrived.

The alleged offender was arrested at the scene and has now been charged with several offences including an indecent assault, but Detective Sergeant Eugene Pickett, Waitakere Police, says they would still like to speak to the woman.

"This is a distressing and upsetting thing to experience, and we are keen to offer this lady our support and any help she may need. As part of that process we would also like to speak with her to assist our ongoing investigation into this man" says Det Sgt Pickett. "We'd really encourage this woman to come forward and speak with us as soon as possible."

The alleged offender will appear in the Waitakere District Court on Wednesday morning.

If anyone else has had a similar experience Detectives urge them to contact their local Police with details.

He is described as the following;

-European.

-Eastern European accent.

-Wearing a lot of gold jewellery, including gold neck chain, watches, bracelet.

-Wearing a number of large gold signet rings on his fingers.
