Christchurch police are seeking assistance from the public to locate two men who may have been involved in an assault in Hagley Park early on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred between 3.00am and 5.20am on Sunday in South Hagley Park on the walkway along Deans Avenue, opposite Freyberg Place.
Detective Andrew Owens says the victim, a man in his 20s, was walking home from the Addington area through the park when he was approached by two or more men and assaulted.
He was knocked unconscious, and was left lying in the park for an hour or more before being found by a passer-by who called ambulance services.
The man was taken to hospital where he was treated for head injuries, including a suspected left eye socket fracture. He was discharged later that morning.
A number of items were taken from the victim, including a cell phone, wallet, iPod and keys.
Detective Owens says the victim has little recollection of the attack. Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a group of two or three people in this area during the time.
"We are particularly interested in two males who may have been seen walking in the area - believed to be Caucasians, in their mid-twenties to early thirties, one with blonde hair," he says.
"If anyone has seen these men or or any other suspicious or unusual activity that in South Hagley Park early on Sunday, please contact Police."
