Christchurch Police have released CCTV images and video from the aggravated robbery of a Hornby bar last night.
Police were called to the Snafu Bar around 9.45 last night [Sunday 1 September] after reports that two masked men had broken a window with a tomahawk to gain entry to the premises, and confronted a female staff member.
Detective Rob Kennedy says one of the men was believed to be carrying a pistol, but it is not yet known whether this was real or imitation. A tomahawk has been recovered from the scene, which is a distinctive 'American Hickory' brand.
Detective Kennedy says the intruders forced the staff member to hand over a sum of cash from the bar takings, raided several pokie machines and then forced the staff member into a walk-in chiller before leaving the premises.
The staff member was not locked in to the chiller and was not injured, and was able to raise the alarm. She returned to work today.
The offenders were reported to have left the area through Denton Park, and some items of property and clothing have been located nearby.
Detective Kennedy says both men were reported to be wearing hoodies and gloves, and one was carrying a backpack.
Investigators are appealing for anyone with information that can help identify the offenders, or who saw any suspicious activity in the area, to contact Police on (03) 363-7400.
Alternatively, to provide information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
