Intimate filming sentencing sends clear message

1 min read

Today's sentencing in the Wellington District Court of a 36-year-old man for making intimate visual recordings sends a clear message that the community won't tolerate such behaviour says Detective Sergeant Glenn Barnett of Wellington CIB.

"This sort of offending is not common but the case is a useful reminder for people to be alert to suspicious behaviour when they out in public places.

"In this case the offender was apprehended as a result of an alert security guard noticing him attempting to covertly film in a store.

"Subsequent inquires revealed extensive offending by this individual.

"Such intimate visual recordings tend to be made in crowded public places where the victim may be distracted. Places such as shops, queues, lifts, and pedestrian crossings all provide an opportunity for such offending.

"If you see someone acting suspiciously - particularly if they seem to be getting too close to someone in a public place - then call police. A common sense approach should tell you what doesn't look right.

"If you think you have been a victim of such activity then we would also urge you to contact police. It is important that these individuals are stopped before they go on to create further victims." said Detective Sergeant Barnett.
