Northland receives Crime Reporting Line service
Northland District has become the 11th, and penultimate, district to receive the Crime Reporting Line (CRL).
CRL provides the public with a convenient, telephone-based reporting service 24/7. Instead of having to report in-person at a station counter, members of the public can give reports over the phone to CRL staff.
The service began as a pilot in Auckland City District in 2006. During the past 15 months it’s been expanded nationwide. Next week, the CRL service will be introduced into the final Police district - Southern.
CRL Workstream Lead Inspector Chris Robinson says the move into Northland is the result of a great deal of hard work.
"One of the big differences Northland District staff will notice is that it frees them up from attending historic crime events so they can focus on crime prevention activities.
"They will also get the benefit of crime reports that are recorded immediately, which improves intel-based policing."
CRL provides a number of other functions. It takes overflow 111 calls, processes calls that require a dispatch response, parole recall warrants, reports of concern from CYFS, Police Safety Orders, Intel notings, Crimestoppers reports, complaints and praise for Police as well as directory assistance for the public.
