Rush prevents flush in Waikato drugs bust

Just reward for a concerted effort by Police targeting offenders causing harm to the community by dealing drugs is how one senior officer describes the arrest of a man on methamphetamine charges yesterday.

Hamilton City Tactical Coordinator, Senior Sergeant Freda Grace, said armed officers assisted their colleagues carry out a search of the Fairfield property.

"Quite often when dealing with offenders involved with drugs our staff encounter people armed with a variety of weapons and in yesterday's case two imitation firearms were recovered. Armed staff are therefore often used to support such operations to ensure the safety of not only our own staff but the public as well.

"Our operation was also flushed with success when officers prevented the 32-year-old offender disposing of a large quantity of what is believed to be methamphetamine when he blocked a toilet with a pair of electronic scales."

Ms Grace said in addition to the drugs a sizeable amount of cash was also recovered resulting in the man being charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply and breach of bail charges and he was due to appear in the Hamilton District Court today.

"Yesterday's results highlight the need for Police and the public to be vigilant and work together to combat the threat posed by drugs to our community.
