Missing Hamilton girl found

1 min read

Solid old school enquiry work is being credited for the locating of a teenager missing overnight in Hamilton.

Head of the Hamilton Enquiry Section, Sergeant Robert Isaac, said it was great relief officers were able to return the 17-year-old girl back to her family about 11.30am.

"Officers had been to the school and spoken to friends and associates about likely places the girl may have gone to or who she might be with.

"It wasn't long before we were able to identify a property in Frankton where she might be found and late this morning we located her safe and well with no health or welfare concerns. The people where she had stayed were not aware of the situation and when they checked internet news sites were quite surprised about the scale of the situation they had unwittingly become part of."

Mr Isaac said the girl's caregivers were relieved to have her back safe and well and appreciative of the efforts of the Police and Search and Rescue personnel involved.

"Time and time again search and rescue volunteers turn out to assist Police in searches such as this and it is really satisfying when such situations can be resolved so successfully so our thanks go out to them and to all the members of the public who rang in with sightings and information."
