Crash witnesses needed

1 min read

Motorists who witnessed the serious crash in Orakei late on Sunday March 3 when four teenaged girls were seriously injured, are urged to contact Police who are investigating it.

One of the four who was in the stolen fleeing vehicle has been interviewed and Police hope to speak to another this week. Two of the three girls still in hospital will have long-term stays due to the extent of their injuries.

Investigating officers want to hear from all motorists who were passed by the fleeing vehicle and the pursuing Police patrol car on Kepa Road after the pursuit was initiated.

Police believe at least three vehicles were overtaken between Ngapipi Rd and Nehu Street - just after the pursuit started.

"Another vehicle, a dark coloured, light commercial/utility, was passed by the fleeing car and Police just before the stolen car hit the traffic island," Detective Sergeant James Robson said.

"From CCTV footage we've viewed it appears this vehicle was pulling over to let cars involved in the pursuit pass, so we'd like the occupant(s) of this later vehicle, who are likely to be key witnesses, to contact Glen Innes CIB on 09 524 1936."
