Christchurch Police are seeking witnesses to an incident in Cashmere yesterday involving an attack on a teenager with an airgun-type weapon.
At around 5.40pm last night [Wednesday 2 May] a 15-year old school boy was cycling uphill on the eastern side of Dyers Pass Rd, near Rhodesvale Terrace, and was shot at from a passing car. The teenager was not injured.
Senior Constable Logan Steele says the weapon used seems to have been an airgun or paintball type gun. Three rubber balls consistent with that type of weapon were found at the scene.
The offending vehicle was described by the victim as a light-coloured station wagon which was travelling uphill. The offender was reported to be standing up through the sunroof of the vehicle.
"After the car had left the scene, a female who was running up the hill on the opposite side of the road asked the victim if he was alright," says Senior Constable Steele.
"According to the victim she would have been lower down the hill when the incident occurred and probably saw the incident. Unfortunately her details were not obtained by the victim.
"We would like to locate this witness, who was reported to be wearing pink jogging gear, and any other witnesses who can help provide information about the incident."
