Whakatane Police have tonight released the name of a boy who died after falling off the tray of a utility vehicle being driven in Galatea Road, Te Teko, this afternoon.
He was Shane Hohepa, aged 13 years, of Te Teko.
The circumstances in which Shane died are being investigated. There is no indication at this stage of another vehicle being involved.
A karakia was given by local kaumätua before the road was reopened.
