The drivers of both vehicles involved in a fatal collision yesterday afternoon near Haast are still in hospital being treated for their injuries.
The New Zealand man who was driving a Subaru has this afternoon undergone surgery at Dunedin Hospital. His condition is not considered life threatening. The man’s 82 year old father who was a front seat passenger in his car died in the collision.
A German man who was driving a campervan is in Grey Base Hospital. He has lacerations to his legs, a broken collar bone and a heart condition. A 53 year old woman passenger in the campervan died in the crash.
The serious crash investigation is almost complete and both lanes on the road are now open.
West Coast Police are urging motorists to take extreme care on the roads, keep left and drive to the conditions.
The names of the deceased cannot yet be released.
