Tourists and rugby fans travelling to Auckland in camper vans are urged to use any of the three temporary parking sites or any of the seven permanent sites in the region over the coming weeks as the Rugby World Cup Tournament enters its final stages.
Three temporary parking sites - at Westhaven in the city, Alexandra Park in Epsom and the Waitemata Rugby Club in Henderson - have been set up for the duration of the tournament. They have security staff on site and are well serviced with ablution facilities.
Auckland City District Police are expecting an influx of fans in camper vans in the region over the coming few weeks and say its important drivers know where to park to ensure their property is not targeted by opportunist thieves.
"It's incumbent on all vehicle operators to plan ahead when it comes to parking and leaving your vehicle unattended so as to minimise the risk of having property stolen," Auckland Police RWC Operations Commander Superintendent Brett England says.
"Choosing to use secure sites makes sense and will increase the chances of fans who've chosen to travel this way ending their tours without having become a victim of property theft.
"Our overriding objective has always been to assist locals and visitors enjoy the RWC tournament while keeping themselves and their property safe."
