1 min read

Police are urgently seeking assistance from members of the public to identify and locate a man who sexually violated a 33 year-old woman outside Middlemore hospital on Wednesday 14 September 2011.

At 6.30pm the victim, who had been visiting a friend, left the hospital to have a cigarette. She was approached by an unknown male and sexually assaulted.

Six teenagers who got off a train near the hospital at 7pm, saw the victim in a very distressed state and came to her aid.

Detective Sergeant Andy Townsend from Counties Manukau Police says "These young men did an absolutely incredible job of comforting the victim. They handled what was a difficult situation in a very mature, responsible and empathetic way".

The victim describes the offender as a young, male Polynesian who was wearing a grey Adidas hoodie and a black beanie which had a red eagle on it. The offender may have facial injuries that were inflicted by the victim.

A grey Honda Odyssey sporting a Tongan flag was in the area at the time and Police are appealing for the driver to contact them.

Police would also like to speak with members of the public who were in the area and saw the assault, or those who can help identify the offender.

If anyone has any information that could help Police with their enquiries, please contact Detective Sergeant Andy Townsend on 09 353 0023, visit your local Police Station or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
