If you're concerned about suspicious behaviour near vacated homes or unknown vehicles snooping around streets - then call Christchurch Police.
Superintendent Dave Cliff, Canterbury Police District Commander, said it was relatively quiet for police overnight in the city with no significant earthquake related crime reported.
"We've had one or two calls this week of people wearing high viz vests and possibly passing themselves off as earthquake response workers," he said. "A high viz vest is no guarantee of authenticity and we encourage people to ask for identification.
"Keep an eye on empty homes in your neighbourhood. If you see anyone who looks out of place, or unknown vehicles and people cruising around the streets, then call police.
"We've got lots of patrols out, including in the worst hit eastern suburbs and hills areas. Extra patrols are boosting our presence in areas such as Sumner where several houses have been red stickered.
"Police have also been patrolling schools, as well as suburbs where the power has been out. We're pleased to report that crime has been very low in these areas. We don't want to see criminals taking advantage of the current situation. Call us if you have concerns as we will respond."
Damaged roads, liquefaction and infrastructure repairs will make driving and cycling conditions across the city more hazardous for many weeks. Police encourage roads users to be extra vigilant, especially for rockfalls, pot holes, silt and surface water.
