The name of a man killed in a collision between his utility and a truck and trailer unit outside Cambridge on Monday night has been released.
Waikato District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Leo Tooman, said the dead man was Daniel Robert COLVIN, 37, of Hamilton.
Mr COLVIN died after his Mitsubishi utility crossed the centreline into the path of an oncoming truck and trailer unit about 340m from the intersection of SH1 and Racecourse Rd.
"This man's death is the 27th in the waikato this year compared to 25 at the same period last year.
"That's 27 families who won't be celebrating Christmas with loved ones this year or have the opportunity to enjoy the hosting of a Rugby World Cup, we're asking drivers to think of the consequences before they drive tired or allow themselves to become distracted. A moment's inattention can mean a lifetime of pain for those left behind."
Mr Tooman said motorists transiting Waikato roads can expect to see a heavier Police presence on the District's roads but it wasn't all about enforcement, the public has a role to play too.
"It needs to become publicly unacceptable to drive drunk, to drive tired and to drive in breach of license conditions, to it no to be is killing us on our roads."
