Police working to locate a young boy who absconded from caregivers are working to verify information that the boy is not at risk.
Senior Sergeant Gillian Meadows of the Hamilton Police said though 12-year-old Chase NAPERA-KEEFE, also known as Chazz NAPERA, remained unaccounted for Police had received good support from the public as they try to locate the boy who was last seen in about 2.45pm yesterday.
"We are speaking to a number of people who have information that may help us determine his whereabouts.
"Since he was reported missing we have learnt this is not an isolated case, considering this we have a degree of confidence in relation to his safety however he is still 12-years-old and we will remain concerned for his well being until such time as he is located."
Ms Meadows urged anyone who has seen Chase, described as a male Maori, 162cm tall, of solid build wearing dark coloured tight jeans, dark shoes with a white stripe around the edges, a white T-Shirt with pictures and a dark coloured jacket, to contact Police.
"When last seen he was wearing a cap and sunglasses and riding a 10-speed bike with no lights, this boy has potentially been out on his own for 24 hours and we need to find him.
"If you see a boy matching his description or even if Chase hears media reports for the search for him we urge you to contact the nearest Police Station, Hamilton Police on 07 858 6200 or 111."
