Cyclist injured in hit and run incident

Nelson Police are seeking information from the public about an incident in which a cyclist was knocked off his bike in the city on Mother’s day.

The 14 year-old road cyclist was waiting at the traffic lights on Collingwood Street, on the intersection of Hardy Street, about 3.15pm on Sunday. He was heading up Collingwood Street.

When the lights turned green he started riding forward but was hit from behind by a vehicle and knocked to the ground. The vehicle didn’t stop.

The victim suffered facial injuries, including damage to his teeth and was taken to hospital by ambulance. His bike was written off in the incident.

A number of people were in the area at the time and came to the boy’s aid. The boy was wearing distinctive Stoke Cycles clothing.

Police would like to hear from those people or anyone else who witnessed the incident.
