Nelson Police seek witnesses to stabbing

Nelson Police are calling on the public for information about a stabbing that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Detective Pat Nally of Nelson CIB said a 22 year-old man was stabbed multiple times in the head, face, throat and shoulders about 12.30am outside the Richmond Police Station in Queen Street.

The victim was walking along the street on crutches and was accompanied by a woman when the attack occurred. His injuries are not life-threatening and he was treated at Nelson hospital and has since been discharged.

Police are particularly keen to speak to two men and a woman who were present during the attack. The trio are known to have been drinking at the Star and Garter Hotel earlier.

Police are also asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or knows anything about it to contact Detective Nally at Nelson Police Station, Ph 546 3840.

“We’re very keen to get this resolved quickly and would encourage those three people to come forward immediately,” he said.
