Tourist arrested following drink spike investigation

1 min read

A 29-year-old Swedish tourist was arrested in Nelson today following an
investigation by Napier Police relating to reports of patrons of a Napier bar vomiting and losing consciousness after allegedly having their drinks spiked last weekend.

The man is appearing in the Nelson District Court today on charges of indecent assault and administering a Class B controlled drug. Police are seeking a remand back to the Napier District Court.

"These incidents are relatively rare," said Detective Senior Sergeant Nick Reid of the Napier CIB.

"The incident serves to highlight that people should not leave drinks unattended, drink other people's drinks or allow anyone to put substances into drinks," he said.
