Nelson Police today arrested a 17 year old local youth in relation to the vicious assault on Brent Powell in the early hours of Saturday 2 October.
The youth has been charged with Wounding with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm. He will appear in the Nelson District Court at 3.15 this afternoon.
Police are also speaking with two 18 year-old males in relation to the attack and further charges may be laid.
Today's arrest came as a result of information received from the public and information from social media sites.
A search warrant was executed at a Nelson address this morning where the 17 year-old was arrested. Several other people at the address were also taken into custody, but have since been released.
