Hamilton Police thank media and public for assistance in locating child

1 min read

Hamilton Police are crediting the power of the media and the public's sense of doing the right thing as playing major parts in the safe recovery of a young child yesterday.

City Area Commander, Inspector Rob Lindsay, said Police had held concerns for the safety and well being of the 18-month-old girl after she was taken by her mother from her estranged husband at the Hamilton Lake Domain on Tuesday afternoon.

"There were issues I am unable to go into which gave us grounds to be concerned about the little girl's safety with the mother, who was breaching bail conditions by having her.

"Fortunately minutes after a release was put out that Police were looking for the mother members of the public heard about it on the radio and contacted us with the pair's whereabouts."

Mr Lindsay said the child was recovered without incident and the mother arrested for breach of bail.

"There was no shortage of people in the station wanting to ensure the child was alright, in fact she was a hit with many of our female officers.

"The little girl was placed into the care of Child Youth and Family a short time later and we'd just like to thank everyone involved in bringing this issue to a close without incident."
