Hamilton Police hunt gunman after violent domestic dispute

At about 8.30pm last night Hamilton Police became aware of a serious domestic incident that occurred in the City over a two day period.

Hamilton City Area Commander, Inspector Rob Lindsay, said Police became aware of the situation when the victim was able to escape and raise the alarm.

"This person suffered a variety of serious assaults and was taken to Waikato Hospital, she suffered serious physical injuries in her ordeal which required medical attention that is still ongoing.

"We are also aware that she was subjected to an alleged earlier assault where the offender held her against her will and a firearm was discharged 2-3 weeks ago."

The 31-year-old woman's two children aged seven and three were present in the home at the time of the incident.

Mr Lindsay said as a result of this information Police cordoned off a residential address in the suburb of Nawton about 11am looking for the offender.

"Distraction devices were used however no shots were fired and the offender was not located at the address, a search of the property is continuing and a scene guard is in place.

"The offender we are seeking in relation to these incidents is Colin Rangi Robyn KIRIONA, a 25-year-old male Maori known to have connections in both the Waikato and Whanganui areas.

"KIRIONA is 175cm tall, of medium build and known to be using methamphetamine, he is a patched member of a NZ Adult Gang and has a distinctive bulldog tattoo on the left side of his face."

He is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
