Hamilton Police investigating the stabbing of a woman in a domestic incident in Frankton on Saturday night have laid several charges against her attacker and say more are likely.

Detective Sergeant Andy Bu Bear of the Hamilton Family Violence Team said the 46-year-old man had been charged with possession of a weapon, breaching a protection order, threatening to kill and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

"He will appear in the Hamilton District Court today and we are currently considering laying further charges."

Overnight Police carried out a flyer drop appealing for residents around the Primrose St area to keep an eye out for any suspicious items left on their properties including the weapon believed used in the attack.

"The weapon used to stab the woman was described as a knife with a small silver blade 10-15cm in length; we don't know what the handle was made of.

"The man left the Primrose St address where the stabbing took place about 8pm and we believe he still had possession of the knife and some clothing which he may have hidden somewhere on the street."

Mr Bu Bear said investigators wanted to speak to anyone who may have seen the man in the area who hadn't already spoken to Police.

"He was arrested on the corner of Killarney Rd and Primrose St about 8.10pm Saturday."

"If you saw something suspicious or if you find something out of place on your property please leave items where they are and phone the Hamilton Police on 07 858 6200."

While investigators always prefer to speak to people with information directly Mr Bu Bear said there may be some people who felt more comfortable leaving information anonymously.

"If that's the case it's the information you have, not who you are that we want to know, in that situation we ask that you ring the Crimestoppers crimeline on 0800 555111."
