1 min read

The 23 year-old man wanted by Auckland City Police in connection with the January 31 murder of taxi driver Hiren Mohini in Mt Eden, was located and detained in Shanghai by Chinese authorities on Thursday, June 10.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hywel Jones, the officer in charge of the homicide investigation known as Operation Edgewater, travelled with another officer to Shanghai late on Friday night to assist Chinese authorities with evidential matters.

Auckland District Court suppression orders around some details on the man's arrest warrant were lifted early this afternoon.

Police advised Mr Mohini's family of the weekend's developments today.

Auckland City CIB head, Detective Inspector Bruce Shadbolt, says Police are very grateful to the Chinese authorities for their support of and co-operation with Operation Edgewater and for locating the wanted man.

"Discussions are underway between our officers in China and Chinese authorities regarding the next steps in the investigation," he said.
