Road crash claims a second life

A road crash in Opunake on Thursday night (6 May) has claimed a second life.

The crash happened around 3.40pm on SH45 north of the Opunake township. A Toyota people mover travelling south lost control on a moderate right-hand bend. It crossed the road, rolling over and hit a fence.

63-year-old John Miller from Opunake, who was the driver of the vehicle was killed in the crash. His mother, 88-year-old Joan Miller, also from Opunake, was taken to hospital in a serious condition. Mrs Miller died in hospital yesterday morning (Sunday, 9 April).

Serious Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
