Hamilton Police searching for an elderly woman missing for over a week are urging property owners to search their properties and any surrounding areas not normally accessed.

Pensioner Audrey Gibson has not been seen since 2 December after having her hair cut at a hairdresser's a short distance from her Comries Rd home.

Waikato Police Search and Rescue team leader, Sergeant Phil Bell, said despite an extensive search of nearby properties and continuing searches of the Waikato River and its banks the missing 82-year-old has not been found.

"'The search has been pretty extensive and run in conjunction with a search and pamphlet drop by the family yet she still remains unaccounted for.

"Given her age, medical condition and time period she has been missing Police and her family hold grave concerns in regards to finding her alive."

Mr Bell said locating Audrey remained a priority for all those involved and he urged property owners to check outbuildings and any overgrown areas of their properties.

"If you come across anything untoward leave it in place and contact Police and we will come carry out a scene examination," said Mr Bell.

The search for Audrey recommenced this morning with officers returning to the Waikato River aboard the Police rescue boat.
