Detectives investigating a hit and run incident 'with a difference' over the weekend are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Senior Sergeant Jeff Penno of the Hamilton Police said officers arrested a man following the incident which happened on Claude St in the east of the City about 6.30pm Saturday.
"Officers cordoned off Claude St after a number of calls advising a man was seen clinging to the bonnet of a car as it drove at a high speed down the street.
"This man was seen to be thrown from the vehicle which then ran over, then stopped on top, of him. The car then reversed back over the injured man before driving off at speed in the direction of Peachgrove Rd."
Detectives investigating the incident believe it to be part of a relationship based disagreement.
"A Hamilton man was arrested by detectives staff some hours later while the injured man was taken to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition suffering from serious leg, chest and internal injuries.
"The car involved, a white four door sedan, was seized however we're still seeking anyone who witnessed the incident or the vehicle who hasn't yet been spoken to by Police."
Mr Jeff Penno said the incident happened in a residential street over quite a period of time with lots of screaming and shouting prior to the man being run over.
"It's likely many other people witnessed the event than who have been interviewed so far and their information could greatly assist the Police inquiry..
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Hamilton C.I.B on (07) 858 6200.
