Man targeting elderly

1 min read

Police are seeking a serious offender who is allegedly targeting his old clients on a `meals on wheels' delivery route. With 115 homes on the list, he has already hit several that Christchurch police know of, says Detective Sergeant Darryl Sweeney.

"We know he has allegedly been taking cheques and credit cards from the elderly people," says DS Sweeney. "We've been trying to contact all those on the previous delivery run but need the help of families and neighbours to keep an eye on their elderly relatives. This man is very plausible and charming, conning the cards and pin numbers from the elderly victims."

He is also known to have posed as a police officer, a Telecom contractor and a Bank Manager on various occasions when contriving to obtain financial gain.

He has hit a number of service stations obtaining vouchers whilst distracting the shop assistant.

He was dismissed from the meals on wheels company for dishonesty in April this year. Such workers are not subject to Police clearances.

Police cannot name the 29 year old man, but he is described as male, caucausian, 173cm tall with sandy blonde hair. He has a current
warrant to arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Darryl Sweeney phone (03) 3637838.
