Man faces second bank robbery charge

1 min read

A man charged with robbing a bank in Palmerston North yesterday (Monday, 28 September) has now been charged with robbing the same bank earlier in the month.

The ANZ bank on the corner of Ruahine Street and Broadway Avenue was targeted on Thursday, 17 September at 10.45am and again yesterday around 9.40am. The same three members of staff were confronted on both occasions by a man with a long-barrelled firearm.

On both occasions Mitsubishi cars stolen from the town were used to leave the scene.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said: "We received some valuable information yesterday from the public and that combined with the quick-thinking actions and outstanding work of a number of officers led to a swift arrest, and the recovery of a firearm, cash and a stolen car."

A 25-year-old man from the city will appear at Palmerston North District Court later today facing two charges of aggravated robbery.
