A man will appear in tomorrow accused of using a knife to threaten a Palmerston North dairy owner, with the intent to steal cash.
The incident occurred about 11.40 this morning (Tuesday, 25 August) when a man went into the Rewa Dairy on the corner of Rewa Street and Botanical Road.
The man had a beanie hat pulled down low and a jersey pulled up over his chin to cover his face. He wielded a knife at the owner of the dairy, a man in his 60s, and demanded cash. When the owner refused to hand any cash over the offender left.
A knife and jersey were found discarded nearby. No-one was injured during the incident.
As a result of enquiries a 20-year-old from Otorohanga in Waikato was arrested on Rangitikei Street about an hour later.
He has been charged with assault with intent to rob and will appear at Palmerston North District Court tomorrow.
