Police are appealing for information following a shooting in Foxton which has left one man with serious injuries.
The incident unfolded around 4.25pm today (Thursday, 11 June) when police received a call from the ambulance service.
A 25-year-old Horowhenua man was inside a car on a driveway in Union Street having received injuries from what is believed to be a shotgun.
He was initially taken to Palmerston North Hospital but later transferred by helicopter to Hutt Hospital where he is being treated for serious leg and hand injuries. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Enquiries so far suggest that the shooting did not occur at the Union Street address but that he was transported in the car to that address with the emergency services being called from a payphone en route to Union Street.
There has been insufficient co-operation at this stage for police to be sure where the shooting occurred or what was behind it.
The shooting follows the burial earlier in the day in Foxton of Dennis Hines, founder of the Nomad gang in Horowhenua and Otaki.
The car that the man was found in was a Holden Calais, mid to late 90s model registration number UI2626. It is two tone in colour with the upper half being blue and the lower half silver.
Police want to piece together the movements of this car and are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw this vehicle in the hours leading up to 4.30pm.
