Taxi robbery release 2
03 February 2009
Police investigating today's early morning robbery of a Hamilton taxi driver have carried out a scene examination and are following up strong lines of inquiry.
The robbery took place about 1.40am when the taxi driver arrived to pick up a fare at a Ross Cres address.
When the taxi arrived the supposed customer told the driver he just had to get something and disappeared while two men suddenly appeared, one armed with a pistol and demanded cash and the driver's cell-phone.
Taking a small amount of cash and the phone, the offenders told the driver to leave and he raised the alarm with Police.
Inquiries have revealed a driver from another taxi firm had 10 minutes earlier been called to the same address but had driven off when he noticed someone lurking in nearby bushes.
Anyone with any information on the identity of the robbers or who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact Hamilton Police
