A two car collision in the southern Waikato claimed the lives of two children overnight.
The children were Tyrone Joseph JAMES-LEAF, 10, of Mangere and Nevaeh RAUTU, 1-year-5-months of Mangere.
The Waikato Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash and initial indications are the collision occurred when a southbound car crossed the centreline into the path of a northbound van.
The crash happened about 5pm on SH1 at Piarere on a stretch of road where three lanes merge back into two.
The older child died in the crash while the baby suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Waikato Hospital and died overnight.
The children are understood to be related.
Three other people are understood to have suffered minor injuries.
Meanwhile an early morning crash in Hamilton yesterday claimed the life of a young woman.
Emma AUBREY, 18, of Hamilton died when the car she was driving left the road and collided with a power-pole about 12.40am on Rifle Range Rd.
Miss AUBREY was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance suffering from life threatening injuries and died several hours later.
The Waikato Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash.
