Waitakere Police are in the suburb of Glen Eden today, seeking information that will lead them to identify the male Polynesian offender who abducted and sexually assaulted a 13 year old girl, in an ordeal lasting about 45 minutes.
At about 2.00 pm on Saturday 30 June 2007 the young victim was walking along West Coast Road near Bowers Road in the Glen Eden Shops, when she was approached by a male driving a small silver car.
The male asked the young girl for directions, and then insisted that she get into his car and show him the place that he was looking for. While in the vehicle the young victim has been physically and sexually assaulted.
Detective Sergeant Megan GOLDIE says a team of about a dozen police officers are in Glen Eden where the abduction happened. They are speaking to residents in the hope that they may have either witnessed the victim and the offender together in conversation minutes prior to the abduction, or witnessed other sightings of them.
"This was a brazen, premeditated sexual attack on an innocent young victim. We want this offender caught before he carries out any further attacks of this nature on any other young girls. The public can help us in this search, especially if they've seen a similarly described male acting suspiciously anywhere in the West Auckland area.
"Somebody will have seen the described vehicle and its two occupants in the West Auckland suburbs of Glen Eden, Titirangi, and Woodlands Park on Saturday afternoon sometime during the period 2.00pm - to - 3.30pm."
"The sight of both a 13 year old girl and a Polynesian male aged in his 30s to 40s travelling together is unusual, so if anyone sighted these two persons in a medium sized, silver toned vehicle, they'll have vital information that'll assist this investigation."
"The victim is slowly recovering from her ordeal. It's been a very traumatic experience for her. Her attacker's approach has been plausible, resulting in the young girl being lured into his car. We urge parents to reaffirm to their children to always keep themselves safe. Anyone with information please call us, Waitakere CIB, 09 839 0600."
