Seeking witness to a stabbing

1 min read

Police are investigating an incident at McDonalds, Easgate Mall, last Saturday night when a young man was stabbed. It is believed that this was part of a conflict between two groups of youths.

The 18 year old victim was allegedly ordering some food around 6.50pm when he was approached by two males and during a conversation it is alleged he was stabbed by a third male.

A man with two young children, probably both under four years old, one a toddler, was standing close by at the counter. Police would like to speak to this man about what he saw happen.

Ambulance attended and the young man was taken to hospital. It is not believed the victim or the alleged offender knew each other.

This follows an incident half an hour earlier when the same offender allegedly approached a youth on a bus, also unknown to him, and attacked him with a knife. This youth was not injured as a result of the attack.

An 18 year old unemployed male appears in Christchurch District court this morning charged with Wounding with Intent to cause GBH and Assault with a Weapon.

The man with two children is asked to contact Constable Michelle Johnston phone 363 7525.
