White base colour for marked patrol cars to stay

1 min read

Police will not be taking any further the idea of placing the current livery on different coloured cars, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lyn Provost, said this evening.

Mrs Provost said the idea had been shelved after demonstration vehicles clearly showed placing the livery on different base colours dulled the visibility of both the orange and blue and blue and yellow marked patrol cars.

"Safety of the public and our staff are our top priorities and we won't be compromising them for the sake of saving a few dollars.

"Claims about improved resale values were theoretical estimates and what the actual dollar values might be would only become known if the initiative had been put into practice.

"While it was commendable that procurement staff were innovative in looking at possible ways to make the police dollar go further this is an idea that is not going any further," said Mrs Provost.

The demonstration cars would be stripped of the decals and put into service as unmarked vehicles so the cost of the trial has been minimal.
