Wellington CIB are currently investigating two suspicious fires that occurred in Wellington on Tuesday 17 April 2007.
The first fire occurred near an area known as Arthur's Nose near Hungerford Road, Lyall Bay at 12.20pm.
A male Caucasian was seen leaving the area at the time.
Police are trying to identify this person who is described as about 5'7"-5'8" tall, aged in his mid 30s and at the time was wearing baggy white track pants and a white sweatshirt. The white sweatshirt had a blue stripe down each arm which was about 2cm wide.
Police believe this person left the scene in a white vehicle.
The second fire occurred on Happy Valley Road near the intersection of Happy Valley Road and Landfill Road at about 7pm.
A white vehicle, possibly a white Nissan Sentra, was seen parked on the shoulder of the road at the time.
Police are considering the possibility that both fires were lit by the same person, although there is no direct evidence linking the two fires.
Police are asking for information from anyone who knows who this person could be or knows someone who matches the description and has access to a white vehicle and may have a history of lighting fires.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Wellington Central Police Station and speak to the Duty CIB.
There is no direct evidence to link yesterday's fires with three suspicious fires in Wellington on 10 April, but police are still considering the possibility.
