Operation Demand - North Shore Police Increase Patrols

2 min read

North Shore Police say this week's launch of Operation Demand will ensure more officers and resources will be readily available for any policing emergency over the next six months.

Acting Area Commander, Inspector Gary Davey, says three extra patrol cars will be available to attend to incidents on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. This initiative will commence on Friday 20 October 2006 and continue through until April 2007.

"Operation Demand will involve six additional experienced police officers on patrol on the three busiest nights of the week, when calls for emergency services are at their peak. This will include the traditional Xmas and New Year holiday periods," he said.

'The extra staff will be accessible to attend emergency calls for service, respond to disorder issues in areas such as Hurstmere Road and around the Bays, plus provide proactive expertise into areas that are suffering crime problems.'

'It's timely to make everyone aware that Police will be taking a much stricter approach to the liquor bans in place in these areas during this time. We will be issuing more Liquor Infringement Offence Notices, and we will not hesitate to seize alcohol from anyone with a sole interest in being a troublemaker.'

'Community Police Officers will be working over the weekends too. The extra community patrols will target shopping malls and beaches throughout the summer. Incidents of intimidation, disorder, and young people drinking in public places will all receive police scrutiny and immediate attention.'

"This six month operation is about ensuring more North Shore police are on duty for the duration of our most populated, busy time of the year, and we intend to provide a rapid response to all emergency calls for service," he said.

"The community want disorders involving alcohol, youths and cars given priority and they want Police to attend to incidents as soon as they call for help. It is our duty to satisfy their needs and we intend to do just that," said Inspector Davey.
