It's been a busy weekend for Henderson Police and Waitakere CIB staff.
Police investigators are making detailed enquiries into several incidents.
These include a double homicide on the Te Atatu Peninsula, a sexual attack on an 81 -year old female in Henderson, a local man suffering from bi-polar disorder who's been missing for almost five days, aggravated robberies of a 15 x year old girl, and a local dairy, and an aggravated assault.
Police say that about 4.00am on Saturday 14 October 2006, a 15 x year old female was walking in Woodside Road Henderson when she was attacked from behind by at least four unidentified males. They robbed her of her mobile phone.
In the attack the school girl received minor lacerations to her throat and several punches to the head. A sharp instrument has been used but no weapon of any kind has yet been found.
The girl remained under observation in Waitakere Hospital overnight. She has since been discharged and is now recovering at home.
Police say this incident highlights the need for young people to be especially cautious when walking alone particularly in the early hours.
Young people should seek assistance of friends or family so that others are aware of their activities. They need to also ensure their own safety.
Police enquiries into this incident are continuing.
On Saturday 14 October 2006 at about 10.00pm Police received a report that the Glengarry Dairy had been robbed by two men. The two offenders were disguised in balaclavas and were armed with a meat cleaver and a knife.
The husband and wife dairy owners were forced to hand over a quantity of cigarettes valued at almost $3,000 dollars. When the female owner confronted one of the offenders she was assaulted. Both offenders left the scene in a stolen vehicle. Police are pursuing a positive line of enquiry in their investigations into this incident.
Police also arrested a 17 x year old offender for aggravated assault, theft from a vehicle and possession of an offensive weapon.
The youth was seen breaking into a car in Wharf Road, but before he could be spoken to by the owner he decamped. A short time later the offender was confronted by the owner and a neighbour at a nearby service station. The 17 x year old then produced a knife and threatened the car owner.
At the same time two Police Officers were returning to Henderson from the scene of the double homicide in Te Atatu Peninsula. While passing the service station they were flagged down by the owner. The youth was subsequently arrested. He will be appearing in Court tomorrow.
Meanwhile the search continues for the 22 year old Polynesian man who has been reported missing from his family home in Henderson. The man suffers bi-polar and schizophrenia symptoms. There is growing concern for his safety and well being.
Police say this weekend has been particularly busy with these incidents and although it has put pressure on staff, the status of these current investigations has not been compromised.
