Identikit likeness released of female robber

1 min read

A member of the public has told police of seeing a dark haired woman in her 20s with a dust mask round her neck just minutes before last Friday morning's robbery of a central Wellington money exchange business.

The witness has helped Wellington CIB compile an identikit likeness which detectives believe is the woman in dark clothing who with three men was responsible for the 10.55am robbery in Manners Mall.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller, Wellington CIB, said the witness - one of several to contact police - saw the woman and three men in the area of the KPMG building in Victoria Street, just around the corner from the robbery scene.

He said the witness believes the identikit is a very good likeness of the female offender, describing the woman as in her mid 20s, a light skinned Maori or Polynesian, slimly built and about 166cm tall. The woman had long dark hair, which may or may not have had a centre parting, as it was slightly uncombed.

"We believe the description fits that of the female offender who wore a full face balaclava, dark clothing, jeans, running shoes and carried a knife during the robbery," Detective Senior Sergeant Miller said.

Another witness has also described seeing three men and a woman in the KPMG building shortly before the robbery.

"We're hoping the security camera photos released yesterday and now this latest identikit likeness will prompt fresh information on the identity of the offenders," Detective Senior Sergeant Miller said.

"We'd also like to hear from people who saw the offenders both before and after the robbery to contact police."

People with information should call Wellington Police on 04 381 2000.
