Police are hoping an outburst of rage from an offender who later viciously robbed and assaulted a Canadian man last week will jog the public’s memory.
Jeremie Kawerninski, a Canadian citizen of native North American descent, unwittingly got into a car with two men and three women outside The Tasting Room bar and restaurant on the corner of Courtenay Place and Cambridge Terrace at about 6pm on Tuesday April 18, 2006.
He was then driven to an unknown Hutt Valley destination where he was badly beaten, blindfolded and then dumped on a Naenae Street.
"Prior to the offenders leaving Wellington with Mr Kawerninski, the male driver of the small light grey or blue car, started yelling and kicking the vehicle while it was parked outside the Tasting Room," Detective Sergeant Tony Heathcote said.
"He was then seen tugging at the car door and seemed to be having trouble getting into it."
Detective Sergeant Heathcote said the car also had its bonnet up before the group eventually left about ten minutes later.
"We are hoping that passers-by or people at The Tasting Room noticed this group because of the noise the driver was making."
Mr Kawerninski, 25, was left with a fractured nose, broken ribs, punctured lung and badly bruised face, torso and thighs.
He is still in Hutt Hospital where he is expected to remain for another couple of days.
Detective Sergeant Heathcote said Police urged anyone with information about the offenders’ vehicle, the male and female occupants or the victim to contact the Lower Hutt Police on 04 560 2600.
