Valuable, aromatic Lawson cypress timber was stolen last week from a North Canterbury property.
On 12 January after the big rain, to sometime in the morning of 13th January 4 cubic metres of Lawson Cypress wood was stolen from Oxford Rd, Rangiora.
The wood is highly aromatic and in 2.8 metre lengths with some of the pieces being about 4 inches thick by 8-10inches wide. Generally most pieces are around 2 inches thick.
The wood, valued around $2000-2,500, was stacked on a pallet however the rope was cut from around it. It had been stored out of sight and well hidden from road.
"To create anything from this wood it would have to be milled and the timber would be too big for a back yard woodworker," says Constable Mike McKellow, of Rangiora Police. "A trailer at least would have been needed to move it."
