Police Deputy Commissioner, Lyn Provost, said she had every confidence in the action being taken by the Bay of Plenty District Commander and his staff over the investigation into discharge of a shotgun at Ruatoki.
"Police officers have discretion on when and how they act and my review of the facts of the situation as currently known are that our staff have acted correctly in dealing with this matter."
Mrs Provost said operational decisions were a matter solely for Police to determine.
"While many people may have views on the pace of the investigation, the fact is that it is our job and ours alone to determine the nature and progress of such investigations. "
Mrs Provost said that the Police Commissioner, Rob Robinson, and his Deputy Commissioner (Operations) were following the case but their top priority today was attendance at the funerals of Detective Travis Hughes and pilot Chris Scott.
