A combined New Zealand Police and New Zealand Customs operation, code-named Nadia, terminated in Wellington today with the arrest of two people on serious drug dealing offences.
Detective Senior Sergeant Darrin Thomson, Organised Crime Unit, says a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman will be appearing in the Wellington District Court tomorrow. Both are charged with:
• Importing the Class B Controlled drug GBL (commonly known as Fantasy)
• Possession of a Class B Controlled drug for supply
• Conspiracy to Import a Class B Controlled drug
• Conspiracy to Supply a Class B controlled drug.
Detective Senior Sergeant Thomson says police believe the estimated 20 – 25 litres of liquid Fantasy seized was brought into New Zealand disguised as wine from Europe.
"We believe the drugs, worth $100,000 on the street, was destined for the Wellington market.
"This was a substantial operation that we believe had been operating for 12 months," Detective Senior Sergeant Thomson says.
Police investigations into the importation will continue.
